About
Classically trained cellist Julia Biłat creates at the intersection of improvisation, composition and performance.
In her solo work, she expands the instrument through voice, body, space, and movement, developing musical forms in which sound and performative presence become inseparable.
Active on Berlin's vibrant musical scene for a decade, Biłat participates in various classical, jazz, improvisation and performance projects such as Stegreif.Orchestra, Camila Nebbia's The Hanged One, Fabiana Striffler's Archiotic Quintet and many more.
Commissioned by Stegreif.Orchestra, she composed and co-directed several productions. Most recently recomposing music of Hildegard von Bingen, with its premiere in 2022/23. With her own projects, Biłat has performed in Butohpolis festival in Warsaw, Poland, Into The Open, Berlin, Intermittenze Festival Catania, Italy, Jazz Exzess, Berlin Solo Impro among many others.
